LVN Program Description
Program Overview
The Gavilan College Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program is a three-semester pathway designed to prepare students for entry-level vocational nursing practice through classroom instruction, skills development, and supervised clinical learning.
Successful completion of the LVN sequence leads to eligibility to apply for the NCLEX-PN licensing examination.
What Students Earn
- Certificate of Completion in Licensed Vocational Nursing
- Associate of Science Degree in Licensed Vocational Nursing, if the required general education pattern is completed
Program Sequence
The LVN nursing sequence is completed through AH 71, AH 72, and AH 73. These courses must be taken in sequence.
Clinical and Study Expectations
Clinical experiences are assigned at approved healthcare and community partner sites. Schedules can vary based on facility availability and program needs.
The program is intensive. Students should plan adequate study time each week and carefully consider work, transportation, childcare, and other outside obligations while in the program.
