GAVILAN PLACEMENT TOOL
Changes to Assessment- AB705
***Due to the passing of Assembly Bill AB705 into state law, Gavilan's final assessment testing date will be Saturday January 19, 2019.
With the passing of AB 705 into state law, starting the Fall 2019 semester students may register for first level transfer courses in English and Mathematics regardless of placement or current enrollment in a pre-transfer level English and/or Mathematics course.
The intent of AB 705 is to maximize the success of students by allowing them to start English and Mathematics courses at transfer-level while receiving the necessary support. In registering for a Mathematics and/or English course for the Fall 2019 semester, students will receive a recommendation on the level of support needed in order to succeed in the transfer course. The recommendation is based on high school coursework, grades, and GPA.
The Gavilan Placement Tool will help you determine whether or not you should take the English and/or Math Placement Test at Gavilan College.
NOTE: Get a copy of your high school and/or college transcript before you begin Option 1 or Option 2. You will refer to them for course numbers, grades, and weighted cumulative GPA. This is not a replacement for meeting with a counselor.
Please choose the option that best describes you.
I completed college-level English, Reading, Math or ESL at another college. Complete the Prerequisite Form.
NOTE: If you are studying English as a Second Language, have an IEP, or 504, you will need to take the Assessment test. Click Here (Assessment Sign Up Page)
