LVN Admissions
Admission requirements and application materials can change by cycle. Applicants should review the current instructions carefully and complete every required step before the deadline.
Prerequisite Courses
A minimum grade of C is required in all prerequisite courses. A grade of C- is not accepted.Other required items: current American Heart Association BLS Provider card and proof of high school graduation, GED, or college/university degree.
Important planning note: BIO 15 can satisfy the LVN prerequisite, but students who plan to continue into an RN pathway later should take BIO 7 and BIO 9 instead, because BIO 15 does not satisfy Gavilan’s RN anatomy/physiology requirement.
Application Process
- Attend a mandatory workshop with the Nursing Counselor when the application cycle is announced.
- Complete the online LVN application when the department posts the application link.
- Upload all required supporting documentation, including the Multi-Criteria Selection Form and current BLS documentation.
- Request high school, GED, and college/university records as instructed for the application cycle.
- If you completed foreign coursework, complete the required transcript evaluation process before applying.
Selection Process
- Incomplete applications are not processed.
- There is no waitlist.
- Selection uses a combination of multicriteria scoring and lottery.
- If you are not admitted, you must reapply in a future cycle.

- Health clearance and immunization/titer documentation
- Background clearance
- Drug screening
- Physical examination
