Please join us in congratulating Philip Avila - Gavilan College Employee of the Month for April 2025!
Philip Avila is a part-time English Instructor since September 12, 2018 and is an amazing English instructor. He is very social and full of energy, creating a very lively atmosphere early on in the day, specifically in his 8 am classes, when the whole world seems to just be waking up. Not only is Avila understanding about students and their struggles, but he’s also very caring and loves to help push, motivate, and encourage students to keep on going, presenting himself not just as an English teacher, but as an empathetic human being, who truly cares. Not only does he spread positivity in the classroom, but he does so as well throughout the Hollister Campus!
Avila can be found in the Hollister Learning Center, a quiet and very calm setting where students are able to walk in, sit down, and study. The Hollister campus opened this semester, and from the very start, Avila has contributed so much to helping the campus glow; he’s helped provide plants and decorations, enhancing the liveliness of the area.
In search of a tutor or tutoring position? Or maybe, any help or guidance not just throughout the Hollister Campus, but overall, Gavilan College? Avila is there, ready to lend a helping hand!
Avila deserves so much more than Staff of the Month! To be one of the first to step into a new, desolate and empty campus (the Hollister Campus), and put the energy, time, and effort to help give life to the campus, Avila is a huge factor and reason in which not only the English classroom and the Learning Center are full of sparkles and glitter, but overall the campus, contributing to its glow and current blooming. The Hollister Campus would not be as yellow, as bright, and as full of smiles without him! We, students, are very grateful to him. Thank you, Avila!
