Marysol is the Instructional Program Specialist in the STEM department and has been employed with Gavilan since June 12, 2024.
For many students, college can feel overwhelming—full of challenges that make them question their abilities. But when they walk into the STEM Center, they find more than just academic support—they find a home away from home. And that is because of Marysol Alvarez.
Marysol creates an environment where every student feels welcomed, valued, and supported. She treats students not just as learners but as individuals with unique challenges and goals. Her kindness and encouragement have transformed the STEM Center into a space where students don’t just seek academic help—they find confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
Her impact extends far beyond her job description. When students struggle with tough subjects like math, she doesn’t just give answers—she ensures they truly understand. She is often seen staying well past her scheduled hours, refusing to let students leave feeling defeated. But what truly sets her apart is her resourcefulness—when she doesn’t have an answer, she actively connects students with the right tutor, faculty member, or resource so no one is left without the support they need.
Marysol’s problem-solving mindset and unwavering dedication uplift everyone around her. Whether guiding students through complex material, offering encouragement, or helping them navigate challenges, she ensures every student leaves the STEM Center stronger and more confident than when they arrived. Her influence extends beyond academics—she empowers students to believe in themselves.
