Education Plans

An education plan (also called "ed plan") is a personalized roadmap that includes each course you need to take - and each term to take them in - to reach your individual goal. Whether you want to earn an Associate's Degree, transfer to a university, gain career skills, or a combination of all three, an ed plan will help clarify your path.
- Meeting with a counselor is required to complete an education plan:
- Your counselor will review your goals, determine course options, and help you build a plan on MyDegreeWorks.
- Feel free to explore MyDegreeWorks from the student tab of your MyGav Portal.

The Gavilan Counseling team looks forward to helping you achieve your goals! The counselor you work with to create your education plan should be your primary counselor.
- If you are participating in a Support Program (like AEC, EOPS, Higher Aspirations, etc.), then meet with your Support Program Counselor for your education plan.
- If you are not part of a Support Program, then it is recommended that you connect with a counselor that supports your major objectives, also referred to as a Career and Academic Pathway (CAP) Counselor.
- CAP Counselor List
- However, we understand that sometimes student scheduled do no align with the schedule of their CAP Counselor(s). In that case, book an appointment with any General Counselor.
Counseling appointments are booked through Gav Connect, located on the student tab of your MyGav Portal.
- Support Program and CAP counselors will display as part of Your Connections in your Gav Connect Support Network.
- For a new education plan appointment, choose the option "New Education Plan" as your reason when booking on Gav Connect.
- For more information about using Gav Connect, visit the Gav Connect for Students page.
We advise you to schedule your education plan appointment during your first term of attendance.
IMPORTANT: An education plan requires a scheduled appointment with a counselor. Schedule your appointment using Gav Connect.
Counselors have the most availability for education plans during the Fall and Spring semesters, in the middle semester.
- Fall: September - November
- Spring: February - April
Summer: There are limited appointments available during the summer, since most counselors are working on drop-in basis. Drop-in sessions are first-come, first-served quick meetings with counselors. We're happy to provide you with timely information and answer your questions; however, education plans are only completed during an appointment time.
