Gavilan College status:
- Fall semester is in session, primarily online.
- All classes, services, and activities are primarily online, except for those programs where licensing requirements or the nature of the material require face-to-face instruction.
- When face-to-face instruction takes place, it will be in accordance with appropriate practices for sanitizing and social distancing in accordance with public health guidelines.
- If classes have a synchronous component, that is, required online meetings at a specific day and time, these will be listed in the Fall schedule of classes so students may plan accordingly.
- All services are being provided in an online format.
- The Graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 will be delayed -- tentatively scheduled as a series of smaller events during the timeframe December 19 - 21, 2020.
- We will follow the direction of the CDC, California Department of Public Health, and Chancellor's Office in determining when to resume in-person operations.
- It is important to check your college email and the website daily during this time.
- Enter through the South Gate. There is no drop-in access to the campus - you must have an appointment
- Do not come to campus if you have a fever or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19
- Wear a mask
- Wash your hands frequently
- Stay at least 6 feet away from others

This email is to share with you that a Gavilan College student who was last at the Gilroy campus on December 1, 2020 has tested positive for COVID-19. Gavilan College has identified everyone who may have been in contact with this individual and is reaching out to them directly, with instructions for testing and follow-up. The facilities involved are being sanitized, and are not scheduled to be used again this semester. If you do not receive a direct personal communication on this matter, then you were not exposed through this incident. This is the eighth case in an individual at Gavilan College since the start of the pandemic in March.
Please know that we have an obligation to maintain the privacy of individuals while protecting the safety interests of the community, which is why we are able to share only limited information. We are following best practices to respond to the situation based on guidance from local health officials and other public health authorities. We would like to remind you of the need to maintain social distancing at all times, to practice thorough hygiene, to monitor for symptoms, and if symptoms arise, to stay away from others and seek medical advice.

The vast majority of this semester’s classes and services are being offered entirely online. This will continue for Spring 2021. For those activities which take place in person, Gavilan College protocols require masks, self-monitoring, and social distancing. We have implemented deep cleaning procedures, including disinfection of shared surfaces that are frequently touched (desks, doorknobs, railings, phones, etc.) We will continue to follow these procedures.

I am writing to share with you that a Gavilan College employee who was last at the Gilroy campus on September 24, 2020 has tested positive for COVID-19. Gavilan College has identified everyone who may have been in contact with this individual and is reaching out to them directly, with instructions for testing and follow-up. The facilities involved, which are not instructional facilities, have been sanitized. If you do not receive a direct personal communication on this matter, then you were not exposed through this incident.
This is the fifth case in an individual at Gavilan College since the start of the pandemic in March. We know that this news may cause concerns and raise questions. Gavilan College has identified everyone who may have been in contact with this individual or accessed the same building (Life Science), and is reaching out to them directly, with instructions for testing and follow-up. In-person classes in the Life Science building will not resume until September 22, and the facility will be sanitized in the interim. If you do not receive a direct personal communication on this matter, then you were not exposed through this incident.

We are directly contacting those who may have been exposed due to their presence in the same location or activity with the individual affected.
