ANNOUNCEMENTS
April 3, 2023
Dear applicant,
Gavilan College School of Nursing and Allied Health is acutely aware of how many members of our community are actively seeking admission to an LVN program. Just like all other programs, we received more qualified applications than we can accommodate. We started our Spring cohort with the allowable number of admissions. There were many more qualified applicants that we could not accommodate. We are seeking the opportunity to revamp our program and make it more economical for future LVNs and infuse the healthcare workforce with more licensed nurses. We are working with our clinical partners and the Board of Vocational Nursing (BVN) on launching this summer start pilot. We want to emphasize that this is not a new application period. We saw a unique opportunity to reach out to 2023 already qualified applicants on our list to find out if there are any interest if we are able to make this pilot a reality.
The pilot is not set. It is in progress. We are working on obtaining approval from the BVN and also lining up clinical placements for the program. Depending on Board approval and clinical access, the summer start program (summer months only) may require five days a week instead of four days as we had previously anticipated. The required number of clinicals hours remains the same for a compressed semester. We are hoping for approval and for the opportunity to offer this pilot to our qualified applicants.
Be patient with us while we work through the process. There is no need to email us to check on your previous email. We will be in touch as soon as we have more (hopefully, positive) news to share. Our regular open application period will be announced in Fall 2023 Check with us then and in the meantime please meet with our Allied Health Counselor Jessica Weiler to make sure that you have met all the requirements to apply.
Sincerely,
Dr. Enna E. Trevathan, DNP, MSN, RN, MBA,CNL
Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health
