Campus Updates from Dr. Avila
Dear Gavilan College Community,
As we get closer to Super Bowl LX, I want to provide guidance and reassurance during what might be a time of heightened public attention related to events taking place in Santa Clara County.
Gavilan College is not a host site for these events and is located outside the operational footprint associated with them. We do not anticipate any impact to campus operations, access, or safety.
I want to assure you that Gavilan College has clear procedures in place if immigration enforcement is present on campus. These procedures were designed to protect all students and give employees guidance. They are designed to ensure appropriate coordination and legal compliance.
Gavilan College Immigration Enforcement Activities Administrative Procedure
- If immigration enforcement activity is observed on or near campus, do not engage and notify Campus Security immediately at (408) 710-7490. Gavilan College Security Department will contact and coordinate with the Office of the President.
- Students and staff will be notified through official college communication systems (text alert, email, voice messaging) if confirmed enforcement activity occurs on campus.
- Resources and toolkits are available on the ICE flyer and Undocumented Students website.
- No student or employee information should be shared under any circumstances.
- Any request for access to facilities or records must be routed through Campus Security and the Office of the President.
Campus Security is responsible for verifying documentation, including warrants or subpoenas, and for coordinating any response through proper legal and administrative channels.
I recognize that uncertainty or increased public attention can be stressful for some members of our community. I want to assure you that Gavilan College stands with Undocumented students, and we are here to offer support during these difficult times. If you are feeling concerned or are supporting someone who is, please know that assistance is available.
Please approach one another with care, avoid assumptions about personal circumstances, and help create a supportive and safe environment for all.
Students may access support through the office of our Undocu-liaison or our mental health and wellness services. Employees may continue to use the Employee Assistance Program. If you ever feel unsafe, contact Campus Security or call 911 in an emergency.
If any campus-specific guidance becomes necessary, we will communicate it clearly through official district channels.
Thank you for being part of the Gavilan College community.
Warm Regards,
Dr. Pedro Avila
