A Moment of Gratitude Following the Accreditation Visit
Colleagues,
As our long-anticipated accreditation visit comes to a close, I want to personally thank each of you. The visiting committee was deeply impressed by the pace of Gavilan College’s progress, a direct reflection of the dedication and energy our students, faculty, staff, and administration bring to campus every day.
The team also highlighted the strength of our college community and the holistic, comprehensive ways our programs support students. Their observations reinforce the work happening across the district to ensure Gavilan continues to provide meaningful opportunities and support for the students we serve.
While the feedback was overwhelmingly positive, the committee noted three areas for improvement: employee evaluations, institutional planning, and distance education. I want to emphasize that these identified areas of improvement do not diminish the great work already underway. Instead, they provide us with a clear focus to ensure we meet the required standards.
The accreditation process is truly the collective effort of the entire Gavilan College community. Gavilan College demonstrated its ability to show up with pride and purpose, as evidenced by our Institutional Self-Evaluation Report and the numerous conversations, presentations, and planning sessions that occurred prior to the visit.
I especially would like to thank Dr. Fayek and all the members of our Accreditation Committee for leading the development of our accreditation report and Victoria Masey for her leadership in coordinating the visit logistics.
We have much to be proud of. Thank you for your professionalism, teamwork, and your continued commitment to the communities we serve.
Sincerely,
Dr. Pedro Avila
