Canvas Access Has Been Restored
Dear Gavilan Community,
The California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office has indicated that colleges may resume normal use of Canvas after completing additional security validation and monitoring steps.
Gavilan College’s IT and leadership teams reviewed the Chancellor’s Office recommendations for validating and monitoring Canvas security before restoring access.
Canvas access has now been restored for Gavilan College.
At this time, there is no evidence that Gavilan College systems were compromised as part of the Canvas incident. However, as we mentioned, the earlier statewide data exposure concern connected to this incident remains under investigation. Students and employees should continue to use caution with suspicious emails, login requests, links, or messages referencing Canvas.
Please continue following good cybersecurity practices:
Do not click suspicious links or unexpected messages.
Be cautious of any email asking for your password or login information.
Report suspicious activity or account access issues to the IT Help Desk.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this disruption. We understand this has may have been stressful and frustrating, especially so close to the end of the semester.
We will continue monitoring updates from Instructure and the Chancellor’s Office and will share additional information as needed.
Thank you,
Gavilan College
Thank you,
Dr. Pedro Avila
