A Difficult Loss for the Gavilan Community: Remembering Shawn Mulcare
Dear Gavilan Community,
It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our valued colleague and dear friend, Shawn Mulcare, who died on October 30, 2025.
Shawn was the quiet, steady force behind countless successful Gavilan events. He was the person many of us relied on when we needed an event to truly shine.
Colleagues describe his patience and pride in ensuring everyone had what they needed to succeed. His dry humor could ease even the most stressful moments. His steady presence reminded us that every challenge could be fixed, with the right cable and the right attitude. Gavilan is better because of the way Shawn chose to serve this community.
He was more than a co-worker. He was a good friend to many, and his craftsmanship, humor, and quiet excellence will continue to echo through the spaces he helped bring to life. We will all miss him more than words can express.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Shawn’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working beside him, including his office mate, Jeronimo Garcia-Juarez. In keeping with Shawn’s quiet nature, his family will be honoring him privately. We ask that the community hold them in their thoughts and respect their space during this difficult time.
This is a difficult loss for our community. Please take care of yourselves and one another. Confidential support is available through the Employee Assistance Program at 800-999-7222 or anthemEAP.com.
Shawn will be deeply missed.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Pedro Avila
