Full-Scale Emergency Exercise on May 9th, 2025
Dear Gavilan College Community,
Our management team has been diligently working on emergency preparedness to ensure we are well-trained to respond effectively in the event of an emergency. In February, the entire management team participated in a full-day training session with our Emergency Preparedness Consultant.
To further enhance our preparedness, our next step is to conduct an on-campus emergency drill. On Friday, May 9th, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Gavilan College will conduct a full-scale emergency exercise on designated areas of the campus. This exercise, as defined by FEMA, represents the highest level of emergency training, involving collaboration between college staff, students, and local first responders in a real-time simulation of a complex emergency scenario.
Emergency preparedness is crucial to ensuring the safety of our college community. Emergencies can occur unexpectedly, and it is essential that we are prepared to respond effectively. This exercise will allow us to test our emergency response plans, strengthen coordination with local emergency services, and enhance campus resilience in the face of potential crises.
During the exercise, you may observe an increased presence of emergency vehicles, personnel, and simulated emergency situations. Please be assured that this is a planned training event, not a real emergency. We have made every effort to minimize disruptions to classes and campus activities, which will continue as scheduled.
We appreciate your support and cooperation as we work to enhance campus safety and preparedness. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Michelle Manrubia at mmanrubia@gavilan.edu.
Thank you for your commitment to making Gavilan College a safe and prepared community.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Pedro Avila
