Frequently Asked Questions |
Q: Who can sign up for the Assessment test? A: Any student who has completed an application for admission and been issued a Gavilan ID number. Q: What is a "reassessment"? A: A "reassessment" is when a student has already taken the assessment at Gavilan and now wishes to retake one or more sections. Students must wait 30 days before retaking an exam. Q: What's the difference between a "reassessment" test date and an "assessment" test date? A: A reassessment test date is a 2 hour block of time designed for students who only need to take one or more sections of the assessment and who have previously taken the assessment at Gavilan. An assessment test date is a 3 hour block of time designed to give students ample time to complete all segments of the assessment test. Q: What do I need to bring to the test with me? A: Your Gavilan ID number and a Photo ID. We provide pencils. Q: What time should I arrive to take the test? A: You must arrive 30 minutes BEFORE the test time in order to check in with the assessment specialist. If you arrive late, you will not be permitted to take the test at that time. Q: How do I get my scores from the test? A: You can go to the Counseling Department, Admissions & Records or the Morgan Hill/Hollister sites to get a print out of your scores. You will need to show a Photo ID and must come in person. Scores are not given out over the phone or via email. A family member may NOT pick up your scores for you. Due to FERPA privacy laws, you must come in person. Q: What if I receive my scores, and the Math section says "cannot be placed with this score. Consider taking....."? A: This means that you took the math test that was either above or below your level. Sign up to take the recommended math level to determine placement into a math class. |
