Transfer Day Questions and Answers for students

Q. What is Transfer Day?

Transfer Day is the annual event for Gavilan College transfer students! Over 40 colleges and universities across the U.S. representing various programs attend Transfer Day so you can gather information about academic programs, admission requirements, and student life. Special afternoon workshops are also available!

Q. How do I prepare for Transfer Day?

For some universities, Transfer Day is the only time they will be at Gavilan to help you learn about their transfer options and programs. In addition, some university tables will be full of students so time may be limited once you approach the university rep. Use the following suggestions to prepare your questions and requests, and navigate through the day efficiently and thoroughly.

Scope out who is attending Transfer Day.

The list of university attendees. The list is updated weekly. Unforeseen circumstances may result in an absent university, university additions, and/or a table location changes on the day of the event.

Research universities ahead of time.

Information such as available majors/programs, campus location, student population, and other "Fast Facts"; are available on the web and in the Transfer Center. To maximize your time with the university representative, research ahead of time so you can obtain answers to questions that can't;t be found elsewhere.

Prepare your list of essential questions to ask.

University representatives want to provide you with everything you need so you can determine which universities are the most appropriate for you. A student athlete, student parent, and biology student will ask different questions and want different materials. Use the suggested questions below as a guide for developing your own list of essential inquiries to make.

Bring yourself and a few supplies.

Bring a bag for college brochures and materials, a pen, and a notepad.

Q. What happens on Transfer Day?

On Transfer Day, you will see balloons, signs, cheerful Transfer Day volunteers wearing a Gavilan button, and others just like you!

A few things to keep in mind:

Do pick up a Transfer Day program from a Transfer Day volunteer. It contains the day's schedule, list of university attendees, and a Transfer Day survey.

Do visit university tables you may not have previously considered. You never know, it may be your future university!

Don't hesitate to ask questions. Take notes and gather materials such as viewbooks, freebies, financial aid pamphlets, and profile sheets.

Do ask for a business card or obtain contact information of the person(s) you can contact with further questions once Transfer Day ends. Ask if they make university rep visits to Gavilan College.

Do turn in the Transfer Day survey located inside the Transfer Day program! Survey results are used to improve Transfer Day for you and your peers.

Do visit the Transfer Center table for assistance.

Q. What's next after Transfer Day?

Look through the materials and notes from Transfer Day within a week.

Weed out colleges that aren't a good fit. Research colleges that interest you.

Explore websites, request more information from admissions offices, and make plans & to visit.

Keep consulting with family, friends, faculty, university reps, and others to further explore or narrow down your list of potential transfer programs and universities. Additional resources include:

The Transfer Center You can continue your research at the Transfer Center. Materials and handbooks on particular majors or field of studies as well as university catalogs are available. A full-time staff is available to assist you in your research.
