Karen Sato Interview pt1

Karen Sato Interview pt2

Karen Sato’s Japanese-American farm family was deeply affected by internment at Poston during World War II. Her parents settled in San Martin after the war. Karen attended school in Morgan Hill, and was hired as a mobility aide during her first year at Gavilan College. She never stopped working with people in the disabled community. After helping run Gavilan’s vocational rehabiliation program for many years, she shifted to teach Adaptive PE; her contributions to the college’s program for disabled students have been significant.  Sato was also involved from the very beginning of the Gilroy area Special Olympics and the Garlic Festival, especially the Garlic Run.
