Summer & Fall 23, Winter & Spring 24 - Free

Who is Eligible?
Gav 4 Free is available to those who complete one of the applications for Financial Aid. Complete and submit one of these applications: FAFSA, or CA Dream Act. There are no income requirements.

How many units are free?
All enrolled credit units are eligible for Gav 4 Free. Registration policy requires students who wish to enroll in 18+ units during Fall & Spring semesters, and 6+ units during Summer & Winter sessions, to meet with a counselor to submit a Petition for Exceptions to Registration Policies form for review & approval.

Are Non CA Residents eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Yes.  Out of State and Undocumented students are eligible after completing a FAFSA or CA Dream Act application.

Are F1 International Students eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Unfortunately not.

I want to take Cosmetology classes, are the materials needed for the class also free?
The material fees are separate from tuition.  Students will be responsible for material fees.

Are Community Education courses free?
No, students will be responsible for the tuition fees taken through Community Education. Community Education courses are not for credit.  Gav 4 Free only applies to credit courses.

Are Police Academy, Fire Academy, and EMT Academy courses free?
Gav 4 Free is available for students who are NOT sponsored by a third party (i.e. employer). Please submit a financial aid application.

Can I add classes after the semester begins? Will those classes be free?
Yes, courses added to your schedule after the start of the term, including late start courses, will be free.

I have outstanding balances from previous semesters, am I still eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Students are responsible for outstanding balances from previous semesters. Students may have a registration hold if they have a financial aid balance due. Students who owe financial aid funds will need to repay balance to have registration hold removed. Please contact Financial Aid at finaid@gavilan.edu or via phone at (408) 848-4727.

I completed my Financial Aid application (FASFA) or CA Dream Act application for 2022-2023. Do I need to resubmit for Summer and Fall 2023?
Your 2022-2023 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act) will help us determine your eligibility for Summer 2023.  To be considered for Gav 4 Free for Fall 2023, Winter 2024, Spring 2024, and Summer 2024, you will need to submit a 2023-2024 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act).  Please note applications must be fully processed (complete application with signatures).

Is there a deadline to complete the FAFSA, or CA Dream Act application to be eligible for Gav 4 Free?
Deadline to submit your 2022-2023 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act) is June 30, 2023 to be eligible for Summer 2023.  Submit your 2023-2024 Financial Aid application (FAFSA or CA Dream Act) soon to help us determine your eligibility!

Why do I see a balance on my student account?
There may be a few reasons you have a balance on your student account, please contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@gavilan.edu or via phone at (408) 848-4727.

What if I am unable to submit a Financial Aid application or I do not meet the application requirements?
