Teaching Philosophy
I recognize and value my students as unique individuals with differing cultural backgrounds, experiences, and interpretations of our world, society, and culture. I also recognize and value my students as unique learners with differing learning backgrounds, experiences, and learning processes.
My class assignments and activities, therefore, are designed to encourage and embrace individual thought and interpretive processes to assist students in developing the critical thinking, reading, and writing skills necessary for effective interpretation and clear written communication.
When designing my classes and creating assignments, I always strive to meet the following goals:
-
Promote a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration
-
Promote process-oriented learning by guiding students through assignments with individualized feedback
-
Engage students' interests and demonstrate the relevance of reading and writing to our lives
-
Participate as a fellow learner with students
