Minutes from March 17, 2004 and April 7, 2004 were tabled to the next meeting.
Bylaws 5-5-04: The committee
discussed the April 6, 2004 bylaws draft on forming a Standing
Technology Committee under Board Policy. Nobody has actually objected to the
new
proposal, but all members need to understand and recognize that the old culture
of the
tech committee will dissolve. One committee member was concerned about when
we compare our existing model with the new proposal, it appears to be a Technology
Budget
Committee. Many members assured that budgetary decisions are only
part of this committee's purpose. The group felt that an instructional dean should
be added to the membership so that instruction is adequately represented. Another
concern brought up was that if all the committee members serve two-year terms
at the
same time, then
there will be no continuity in membership. Larry stated that Ken Wagman has
suggested
that
the committee
members' appointments be
staggered.
The group went through the draft and recommended some formatting and content changes. These changes are included in the May 5, 2004 Word document or the May 5, 2004 PDF file.
The committee continued to discuss proposing a Senate faculty technology committee to provide primary guidance to this Technology committee on instruction. The intent is that outside expertise will be brought in to address certain issues. A committee will report to the Senate each meeting. It was suggested that forming a Senate committee will have more influence over recommendations.
Gavilan Personnel Online Directory: As our committee's last get-together, we plan to have two meetings in the Staff Resource Center so that employees can tackle 'completing personal web pages connected to the Gavilan Personnel Directory'. Peter Howell advises the system is ready. JoAnne will send out an email or flyer to invite all employees to create and post their own webpage for the online staff directory. Demonstration and hands-on training will be available at the meetings. Bring your bio and picture. Digital cameras will be available to take your picture if you do not have your own. Refreshments will be served.
