UPDATES

Tech Plan / Course Delivery: The Tech Plan went to the managers, and the Faculty Senate. It needs to go to ASB and the President’s Council; it has been posted on the Gavilan Intranet.

Joy has been approached by a member of the accreditation Standard 8 team. He suggested that we create an implementation plan of the tech plan. Our recommendations to this committee is that we will have to wait until the plan has been approved first.

Larry suggested that the whole faculty and staff should be supporting the issue of professional development funds.

Hybrid Classes: Fran distributed a newer version of the Technology-Enhanced Course Delivery Systems Matrix. Jane M. agreed to place it on our website.

Larry is writing a white paper on hybrid courses.

What's Hot?

Larry shared a Teach Act article on publishing our online materials. It was recommended that our College get permission from the publishers to publish anything on the Internet and to establish copyright policies. A group of committee members will deal with copyright restrictions and report back to the Tech committee. The volunteer members include: Jane E., Jane M., Larry, Fran, Jen, and Fran will contact Marty.

Larry discussed the concept of Student Driven Scheduling. He mentioned the book-How Digital is Your Business? Eliminate inventory and warehousing costs—we create a catalog—inventory of classes—post our schedule we think people will buy into—i.e. posting inventory-i.e. Dell Computers; Airlines; pilot test a model where students are given an inventory of possible classes and times and students build their own schedule online. GCFA-instructors may lose their rights… letting students tell us what they want may streamline the registration process. Changing the whole dynamic of how we change our product…if we do not make our FTES, send out a new schedule mid semester…He is thinking about applying for the FIPSE grant. Larry will continue with the idea. If we choose to pilot this idea, then we will need to set up some criteria.

Shuk asked about support for summer online classes. Are we changing over to Etudes? We need to talk about summer online classes. Distance Education Coordinator-JoAnne Howell will be returning July 1, 2003. Some campuses will be continuing to do the online course offerings.

Dennie would like every page to be updated and include a web address and date modified. Jane E. will ask Dennie to send Peter the list of pages that need addresses and dates modified.

CVC Spring Conference 2003 May 8-9 Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina-There is $6000 left in training monies. Jane will forward the conference information to all members of the Tech committee.
