Wireless Cart: Vic demonstrated his prototype for a battery operated wireless cart. This cart includes a wireless keyboard and mouse. This cart is a less expensive solution for the smart classroom equipment. It is easy to use and it costs less than $5000. Vic will build one more cart.

Faculty Directory: Jan gave a demonstration on how easy it is to submit a press release to her website by utilizing the template designed by our webmaster, Peter. Before Peter created the form template, the steps were quite long. Now she uploads the press releases instantaneously by clicking on the submit button.

Jan would like Peter to design a similar form template for a Faculty Directory so faculty can upload their own information and keep it consistent for students. After a lengthy discussion, the committee recommended that Peter, JoAnne, and Jan develop a faculty directory template so faculty can create and update their own directory page. It was suggested that this directory link off of the Faculty/Staff web page site.

JoAnne demonstrated the faculty/staff pages on the hhh.gavilan.edu web site and the committee noticed that there was no link on the Gavilan Page for this directory and not every faculty member has a page. She next demonstrated the Instructor and Class Homepages from the http://www.gavilan.edu/cgi-bin/classindex web site. The link from this site is on the Gavilan Home page. It was also suggested that the new faculty directory could be linked from the personnel directory (http://www.gavilan.edu/cgi-bin/directory.cgi). A decision has not been made.

Web Page Standards: There was a lively discussion about creating web page standards without taking away from academic freedom. It was reiterated that Gavilan owns the facility and they have the liability and the ability to control the site. It was suggested that we post a general disclaimer statement on every page. The question was raised on who should police the site. JoAnne distributed the original draft of the Gavilan College Website Standards brochure developed by the Gavilan Web Committee in 1997. The question was raised on whether we should update this brochure to include the Board policies?

Vic discussed the responses/comments from the email that was sent to all staff with the Computer & Network Use Board Policy. Some comments included: adding a disclaimer on the page and putting the responsibility of a faculty home page on the faculty not the webmaster.

It was suggested that the Board Policy on computer usage may be outdated. If we want to try to revise it we need to make recommendations and possibly some education. The committee will continue this discussion on this brochure for acceptable web page guidelines and/ or standards and revision of the Board policy. Larry is going to invite people to discuss these issues on a web log.

CMAP/Digital Media: Bob Beede reminded everyone about the Open House on November 11, 2003 in thr Digital Media Lab from 4-7pm.

Technology Bylaws: Jane distributed the first draft of the new bylaws for the Tech Committee. It was tabled for next meeting.
