UPDATES
Distance Education Workload-Shuk AuYeung and Jen Ferro presented a slideshow on the Distance Education Coordinator's workload and the competencies needed for an instructor to develop and implement an online course. Fran Lozano was helpful in getting an additional 10 hours to supplement the current workload; however, they are looking for funding for the summer semester. The committee was impressed with the presentation and made a suggestion that they give the presentation to all the staff on staff development day. There was concern that Jen get online instructor and class information early enough to input the data into WebCT. The committee suggested that the information be funneled through the department deans.

CMAP & Gavilan TV Committee-Currently, Jan Chargin chairs a committee that will approve the programming on the Gavilan channel. The discussion began on the issue of who will take responsibility for coordinating production of the programs. Fran Lozano, Bob Beede, Jim Frazier, and Ed Loeser are currently involved in some of the process. Many people have expressed interest about types of programs, but who is actually going to produce the programs? Bob B.'s Digital Media class will solicit projects and utilize both the field and TV studio in the production process. Jim Frazier is doing a lot; however, he is a part time instructor. Ed Loeser proposed to the committee that they move him into a managerial position to oversee the working end of the productions. He stated they can easily bring in someone else to take over his audio/visual responsibilities of his current job. The question was raised about whether these TV programming issues are really the technology committee's responsibility? A majority of the members agreed that the channel would be instructional so it should tie in with technology. In addition, it was added to the Tech Plan last year. This discussion will continue at the next meeting.
