Powerschool: YMCA After School Program
Mission: Power school and Super Power Summer Camp support students through expanded learning opportunities that build confidence, self-sufficiency, academic success, and social responsibility.
Activities: Grant-funded program run through GUSD by Mt. Madonna YMCA to give extra help to K-5 students who are from at-risk backgrounds with academic support, recreation, nutrition, enrichment, plus a snack.
Needs this semester: Gavilan students would guide after-school participants through academic activities, and help with hands-on work –T/Th nutritional curriculum, M/W culture curriculum, or Fridays club work. Interested Gavilan students could start Friday Clubs on topics of interest, such as Conflict Resolution or Leadership. Program is centered at Rucker Elementary. After School hours are:
- Mon/Tue/Thu/Fri: 2:00pm-6:00pm
- Wed: 1:00pm-6:00pm
Who should apply: Anyone who enjoys working with kids and who can pass a LiveScan background check (students who cannot, see below.) Applicants need volunteer form and reference check form (ask site supervisor to provide), then fingerprinting form needs to be filled out and submitted online for an appointment. This agency can take many students.
Who should not apply: Students with criminal backgrounds cannot do this work, unfortunately students who dislike kids should try another site.
SPECIAL INFO: Website: https://www.ymcasv.org/mtmadonna/index.html. Students should always wear comfortable shoes they could run in--no flip-flops! Jeans are fine.
