MISS MARILYN is the Founder and Executive Director of the STAR Program, as well as the Executive Producer of the Gavilan College Educational Channel-GavTV 18 in Gilroy, California. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Arts in Theatre Arts and related technologies from San Jose State University. She also has an Video Art Certificate from UC Santa Cruz. Marilyn has an extensive career in directing and producing theatre and television production for over 30 years. She is a professor of theatre and television at Gavilan College in Gilroy, California. During her thirty years at Gavilan College, she directed and produced over 100 plays and founded the Summer Theatre Arts Repertory "STAR" program which has been introducing young people to the performing arts for over 25 years. For the past several years she has been creating and producing programs for the Gavilan Educational Channel-GavTV Cable channel 18. In addition to producing and directing, Marilyn has written plays and television scripts which have been produced by the college and El Teatro Campesino (ETC). She has also developed online classes in theatre appreciation, El Teatro Campesino- ETC and scriptwriting. Marilyn has been a member of the board of directors for ETC in San Juan Bautista for over 15 years. |
MISS KATIE is currently the Artistic Director of the Gavilan College STAR Program. She began as a "STAR kid" at the age of 10, and later went on to become a STAR leader. There, she has directed 2010's "Pirates of Penzance Jr." and 2011's "Oliver!" Outside of STAR, she has performed on the Gavilan stage as Kate in "The Taming of the Shrew" and Rosalind in "As You Like It." She has received experience and training as an core ensemble actor at El Teatro Campesino in San Juan Bautista, where she has acted in such plays as "Zoot Suit" and "La Pastorela: a Shephard's Play." She has also workshopped original roles with the company's laboratory productions and performed her own music. Katie can be seen as the lead character, Darla, in the independent feature film "The Crumbles," which has recieved the Verizon Audience Award (San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival) and has been officially selected to other film festivals nationwide. |
MISS BARBARA is the STAR Administrative Coordinator and has been the primary liaison for STAR families since 2007. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the STAR Program. In addition, she produced the STAR Gilroy 2008 & 2009 Yearbook DVD’s, and is responsible for producing most of the video content on the STAR website. Miss Barbara has worked in an administrative capacity over 30 years. In addition to working for STAR, she has also tutored in the Digital Media lab and the Writing Center on campus. As a re-entry college student in 2003, she has worked as a videographer, interviewer, video editor, and segment producer for GavTV, Gavilan College’s Educational Channel. She holds Associate of Arts Degrees in Digital Media for Digital Audio/Video Production, as well as, Digital Art and Imaging from Gavilan College.

MR. PAUL is the Technical Director for the Gavilan College Theater Department, and Set Designer for STAR Productions. He has been part of the Theater Arts program for over 20 years. Mr Paul holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from UCSC. He builds and designs all sets for shows produced for the Gavilan Theater, including the STAR program's shows. He also works as a freelance designer in the Monterey / South Bay region. Most recently he designed the set and lights for the Shakespeare San Francisco’s children’s play “Ramona Quimby” and Monterey All-Stars production of “Bandidos”. When not at Gavilan, he keeps busy biking and climbing. |
