SEPTEMBER

11th: September 11 Commemoration (Lead: Jan Bernstein-Chargin)*

16th: El Grito/Mexican Independence Celebration. Focus on Chiapas struggle for independence and self-determination. (Lead: Veronica Guajardo; also with ASB)*

2nd: Convocation/gathering/hands across campus to celebrate the college's diversity and to kickoff Disabilities Awareness Month (Lead: Fran Lopez; also with Margaret Martinez and Louise Loots)*

12th: South Valley Symphony Opening Concert

DECEMBER

2nd: World AIDS Day. Health education, and services provided by our community agencies. (Lead: Alice Dufresne-Reyes)

4th: Soup and Bowl Sale. Free Soup and bread with purchase of a handmade ceramic bowl. Choose from hundreds of student and faculty made pots, perfect for collecting and gift giving. (Lead: Jane Rekedal)

10th: UN Human Rights Day (Lead: Elena Dachkova with the International Students' Club)*

13th: Healthy Relationships Day. Local community agencies promoting healthy relationships together with clubs offering a range of gifts for our Valentines Day loved ones.  Performances in the Student Center from 10 to 1.  (Lead: Leslie Tenney with Health Services, ASB, clubs)

Black History Month activities to include Terrence Roberts from the LA Museum of Tolerance as a speaker on Weds., Feb. 5. Fliers as for November would be developed (Lead: Leah Halper; also with Audren Morris, Veronica Guajardo, ASB)*

MARCH
(Women's History Month)

31st: Cesar Chavez Day (Lead: Richard Alfaro)

29th: 2nd Annual Gavilan College Creativity Festival (Lead: Xochi Candeleria/Kimberly Smith)

APRIL

1st: Clothing Drive Kickoff. Donate new and gently used clothing to a club of your choice to support local community agencies assisting those in need. Drive will run from April 1st-April 11th. (Lead: ASB VP of Clubs)

9th: American Red Cross Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registry. (Lead: Alice Dufresne-Reyes; also with ASB and Rho Alpha Mu)

28th-30th: ASB Elections (Lead: ASB VP Student Services)

30th: Career Day. (date to be confirmed) Students, faculty and community members are provided with an opportunity to meet with career professionals and local employers. (Lead: Jan Stewart)

MAY 
(Asian-American Heritage Month)

5th: Cinco de Mayo. A celebration to include music, food, and dancing. The Gavilan College walk/run tradition will be continued. (Lead: Leslie Tenney; Lead for Walk/Run: Alice Dufresnes-Reyes and Susan Dodd)

15th: Bike to Work Day (Lead: Terrence Willett)*

30th: Graduation. Ceremony followed by reception in the Student Center (Lead: Dr. John Baker for ceremony, Leslie Tenney with ASB for reception)
