Vero--next agenda

Terrence distributed results and summary of his campus climate survey, and answered questions about his methods and his findings. He encouraged people to look at the entire report online; there may be material for follow-up studies re: some of the findings such as the one suggesting older male student dissatisfaction. The group decided, in view of the findings about student concerns re: hate crimes, to ask Marty and the I-Team to bring the draft hate crime policy to the district board of trustees in an expedited manner rather than waiting for the rest of the policy changes to be completed. Leah will follow up to give this to Marty.

Terrence brought a second draft of bylaws with some additions. There is a need to discuss both how the committee wants to relate to the college structure, and leadership within the STG. We felt it would be good to have a direct reporting relationship to the college president, but also report to other college bodies as needed. Terrence will reword and bring again. Leadership will be on the next agenda.

Staff Development day meetings were productive and large. Jan led great discussions. The typed results will be considered at a special meeting Monday March 3 at 2 p.m. for planning for 2003--04

The Asian-American display was praised; it leaves March 3. It had a big impact on young Science Alive visitors.

Signups were taken for a potluck celebrating STG's one-year anniversary this Weds/ Feb. 26. Jan has reserved a room, and we will ask everyone to bring a friend.

Vercila reported that six very interesting African-American locals are willing to talk about African-American life for a video project she is working on.  We will miss Black History Month, but not Black History!

Discussion of a draft by Karen and Leah on domestic partners benefits.(Marty stood aside from this discussion.) Some suggested additions will be be made and it will be brought back by the same duo. Audren reported on Cabrillo's domestic partner policy; she and Karen will look for other examples.

The group approved a PSA on budget cuts that Leah drafted; Jan is working with Marilyn to get students involved and telling their stories; the content of the PSA was okayed though it will change as students rework parts. It was requested that this also be shot in Spanish.

Women's History Month event will take place March 25 and will involve daffodils from the Daffodil Days drive, and other flowers, available to be presented in appreciation to women (and men?) who have made a difference for others. Audren will bring an invitation draft to the next meeting.  Several people agreed to float money for daffodils and see if it can be recovered later from CSEA, ASB, etc. Jan will check on getting the gazebo and/or the library gallery in case of rain. Leah will bring the checklist so we can use it at the next meeting re: this event.

Antiwar/nonviolence work--Karen will email Leslie, Suzanne, and Joy to get a meeting together to discuss a Gavilan response. to the Iraq war.

Leslie reported that the ASB will sponsor two or even three buses to Sacramento on March 17 for Lobby Day. Meanwhile there will also be tabling on campus. She gave out posters with information about Lobby Day and encouraged people to get interested students' contact info to her.

Next agenda: bylaws, leadership, work party (a request by Leah), planning group report, women's history month, Lobby Day.
