Gavilan Athletics

Napa, CA- The volleyball team of Gavilan College found the Napa Valley very enjoyable with two victories on Wednesday.  After dropping two matches the last time out, the Rams beat host Napa Valley College and Shasta College in straight sets.

In the first match of the day, the Rams took on the host from Napa winning 25-21, 25-18, 25-23.  Tazi Apple, Andreinna Castaneda and Ryan Asp lead the way offensively with 9, 7 and 6 kills apiece with Sabina Gerard dishing out 29 assists. It was from behind the service line where the Ram’s did the most damage. Karina Daniels, Daisy Valladares, Brittani Siaz and Kaitlin Brummitt combined for 8 aces.  On the defensive side Daniels led the way with 14 digs with Raelynn Heredia chipping in with 10 of her own.

The Second match also found the Rams on the winning side of a three game sweep, this time against Shasta College 25-23, 25-22, 27-25.  This time it was Jessica Stofer, Savanna Hartman and Apple who combined for 31 kills. Add another 36 assists to the season total for Sabina Gerard. Two players had double digit digs for the Rams; Daniels had 21 while Valladares had 16.

Gavilan improves their record to 4-3 with the very difficult Delta Tournament schedule this weekend with 8 of the 16 teams being currently being ranked in the top 25 in the state. The Rams will begin play at 3:00 p.m. against Butte College on Friday. Their second match of the day is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. win or lose.  The schedule for Saturday will be determined after the conclusion of Friday’s matches.
