Saratoga, CA- The gym at West Valley College has always been a hard place for the Gavilan College Volleyball Team to play in.  This year’s team found that out first hand in a hard fought 5 set victory; 23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 23-25 and 19-17. It is the Rams’ ninth straight win over West Valley, their last lost came in a five set match up in Saratoga during the 2008 season.

Stop me if you have heard this before, but Sabina Gerard was able to distribute 53 assists to her teammates on a night where attacks on both sides had a hard time finding the floor. Tazi Apple 20 kills led the way, but the rest of the offense also had a goodnight with Andreinna Castaneda (12 kills), Savanna Hartman (10 kills), Jessica Stofer (10 kills), and Lilly Martinez (7 kills).

For only the third time all year, the Rams’ defense had over 100 digs. Karina Daniels (26 digs) had a team high, but not far behind were teammates Raelynn Heredia (25 digs), Brittani Siaz (17 digs), Daisy Valladares (15 digs) and Gerard (12 digs).

Gavilan now improves their record to 14-6 and 4-0 in conference play. They are currently in first place one game ahead of Foothill College.  The Rams will host Skyline College on Wednesday night, before taking on Cañada College for the first time in seven years on the road.
