Redwood City, CA- The last time Gavilan College played Cañada College in a volleyball match was in 2006. The Rams were in their second season of existence after an eleven year hiatus.  Coaching the volleyball team from Cañada College was some guy named Kevin Kramer. Now fast forward seven years to last night where the roles were reversed, Cañada is in their second season after a five year hiatus and leading the Rams was head coach Kevin Kramer. Just as he did seven years ago Coach Kramer came away from the match with a victory, albeit this time he was leading the Rams to a three set victory 25-13, 25-17 and 25-23.

The Rams offense was led by two good hitting performances out of Tazi Apple (16 kills) and Andreinna Castaneda (11 kills). Apple is currently second in the state in the kill department . Sabina Gerard handed out 35 assists, her sixth straight match with 20 or more assists.  Gerard is also leading both the conference and the state in assists as of last night. The Rams defenders were able to contain the Colts hitters all night long and were led by Karina Daniels (19 digs), Raelynn Heredia (11 digs), Gerard (9 digs) and Daisy Valladares (8 digs). For Daniels, she sits third in the state in digs at this moment.

Gavilan is now finished with the first round of conference play and sit alone in first place with a 6-0 conference record. The Rams improve to 16-6 for the season and with six matches to go the programs all time win mark of 19 looks to be within reach.  However first things first, the Rams have a rare night off on Wednesday and look to rest up before preparing to host Ohlone College on Friday night, the only conference team to defeat Gavilan last season. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
