Brittany Lewis |
Even though the Gavilan College Women's Volleyball team has been enjoying some time away from the court during the winter break, the hard work continues as three Gav' Volleyball members have signed their National Letter of Intent. Avry Walker, a 2011 First Team All-Conference selection, accepted a full scholarship to attend and play at Talladega College in Alabama. Walker was a two year starting outside hitter at Gavilan and helped lead the team to two consecutive CCCAA Regional Playoff appearances. KC Beadle, a two year starting middle for the Rams, has accepted a scholarship to attend and play at Evergreen State College in Washington next fall. Beadle served as one of the biggest blocking threats in Gavilan College history over the past two seasons. Brittany Lewis, a sophomore setter for the Rams, has accepted a scholarship offer with Waldorf College in Forest City Iowa. Lewis was part of the 2009 Gavilan College squad that won the school’s first Coast Conference Championship in volleyball. After taking a year off, she returned to the team in 2011 and became one of the main setters on the team. Congratulations to all three players on taking the next step in their academic and athletic careers.
Gavilan Finishes Another Great Season
The Gavilan College Women's Volleyball Program wrapped another outstanding season recently, losing a tough fought battle to Delta College in the First Round of the CCCAA State Playoffs. The Rams finish the year with a 16-11 overall record and a 8-2 record in the Coast Conference. Gavilan has reached the CCCAA State Playoffs in three consecutive season and has finished among the top ranked teams in Northern California. In addition to the teams finish, four players were awarded First Team All-Coast Conference Honors this season. Freshman Kayce Skocko and Sophomores Avry Walker, Melissa Avila, and Emily Tonascia were all given the first team awards. Avila and Tonascia join a very short list of Gavilan players who have twice been named First Team All-Coast Conference. A list that also includes Teresa Hodges (07-08)and Bri Romero (08-09).
