Win Some, Lose Some

Gavilan College – The Gavilan softball team just finished their toughest part of their 2020 schedule, playing seven games in five days finishing the week with a 4-3 record as they head into conference play.

The week started on Tuesday with a split with Reedley College. In game one, the Rams dropped the game by a score of 3-1 getting only 4 hits off the opposing pitcher. However, they bounced back in the second game when their bats came to life wining the game 7-1. Savanna Castro got her first win of the year going all seven innings giving up 4 hits, walking one. Castro also helped herself from the plate going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s. Brooke Siaz went 2 for 3 score twice while Noel Chavarria went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s, 2 runs scored highlighted by a 2-run homerun in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

After being shut out 11-0 to Monterey Peninsula College on Thursday, the Rams hosted a double head with Feather River College. In game one Amanda Moisa went 6 and a third scattering 4 runs on 7 hits. Siaz came in to get the last two outs of the seventh.  Chavarria went 4 for 4, with two runs scored and an RBI. The Rams came through getting a walk of single to win the game. The bats went cold in game two coming away with only 5 hits as the Golden Eagles came away with a 7-0 win to split the series.

The Rams were right back in action early Saturday morning as Chabot College came in for the final two games of the week. Siaz went 3 for 4 while Bella Delgado went 2 for 3 driving in 1 and scoring 1. Liezl Clark made the most of her one hit driving in 2 Rams. Moisa went the entire game giving up only 3 hits and two runs while striking out 4. Clark continued her hot day going 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s, scoring twice. Siaz went 1 for 2 scoring twice driving in 2 with 2 walks while going the distance on the mound throwing 7 innings, scattering 6 hits surrendering only 2 earned runs.

The Rams are now 6-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play as they prepare for another busy week with two conference game and a double header on the schedule. On Tuesday they travel to Salinas to take on Hartnell College, then host San Jose City College on Thursday. Both games have a 3 p.m. start time and are conference games. Saturday they will make the trek up to Pittsburg for two with Los Medanos College, games are scheduled for 12 and 2 pm. Go Rams!
