Gavilan College – Dane Holmgren has been hired by Gavilan College to be the Head Women’s Indoor & Beach Volleyball Head Coach & Kinesiology Instructor.  The announcement was made by Ron Hannon, Dean of Health & Wellness and the Athletic Director.

Holmgren had been an assistant women’s indoor volleyball coach at California State University, Monterey Bay since 2012.  During his tenure at CSUMB, Holmgren was responsible for all aspects of coaching which included on court coaching and training; scouting; and recruiting.  He was responsible for recruiting Gavilan’s lone AVCA All-American, Erica Chapa, to CSUMB in 2107.

“Dane brings a level of experience to the game that I know will benefit our student-athletes, both in the gym and on the beach. His positive connections within the volleyball community will allow Gavilan College to continue its rich tradition and success,” stated Hannon.

Holmgren has established himself as a respected coach within the South Bay and Central Coast.  For the past two years, Holmgren also coached with Main Beach Volleyball Club located in Aptos.

“Gavilan College provides many unique opportunities for student-athletes in the classroom and on the field of competition.  The Rams have a history of winning on the court, but more importantly in the classroom.  The opportunity to grow along side the school, administration, and athletic department is unique and very important to me. I am so excited to become a part of the Gavilan College and greater Gilroy communities,” state Holmgren.

“While the CCCAA still considers options for competition due to Covid-19, Holmgren has already begun relationship building with returning players.  He’s also actively recruiting for the upcoming season.  His appointment begins this summer,” said Hannon.

Holmgren inherits a program that has won four consecutive Coast Conference Championships, seven overall since 2005.  It’s made two trips to the CCCAA State Championships in 2016 & 2018 with a Final Four appearance in 2018.  The women’s beach program has one Coast Conference Championship and one CCCAA Beach Volleyball State Championship appearance, both happening in 2018.
