Rams out run the Panthers

Gavilan College – From the tip, the game plan for the Rams men’s basketball team was obvious, press full court on defense, force turnovers, score in transition and run their opponents off the court. Which is exactly what happened last Friday night as Gavilan defeated the Panthers of Hartnell College by a score of 111-81.

The Rams forced the Panthers into 24 turnovers, many of which occurred in the first 15 minutes of the game. The results creating runs for Gavilan as they scored in transition early and often, creating a lead on the score board that would not be relinquished. At the half, the Rams had a 59-31 lead that was created by Kobe Ordonio who 22 points, while George Carter had 14 and Tahjae Ordonio had 13.

In the second half, the Rams outscored Hartnell 52-50, with many of the Panthers points coming against the Gavilan’s bench while they kept their starter in the game. Overall, the Rams shot over 58% from the field, while hitting on 8 of their 19 3-point attempts. K. Ordonio finished with a game high 36 points, followed by Carter with 22 and T. Ordonio with 18. DeShawn Butler controlled the paint bringing in a team high 10 rebound while contributing 7 pints of his own. Off the bench, Daemar Potts had a strong showing with 8 points and 6 rebounds while Chris Burnette had 7 points and 4 rebounds of his own.

The Rams are now 1-1 in conference play as they prepare for the week ahead. First it’s a home game against Cabrillo on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. Then they will be on the road to take on De Anza College up in Cupertino with game time scheduled for 7 p.m. Go Rams!
