Beach Picks Up a Win

Gavilan, CA – The Gavilan College Beach Volleyball had their home opener this past Saturday, as they took on the visiting Mt. San Antonio, this being the first time these two programs have played on another.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the first wave of play it was the 4’s of Evelyn Clonts and Melissa Zanotto and the 5’s of Zoe Harada with Adrianne Orahood who looked to get a pair of wins on the board for the Rams. While the 5’s battled it was the 4’s that were able to get the first points for Gavilan. As the final wave started, on the sand was the 3’s of Juice Viray with Flo Tukuaoga, the 2’s of Mikeila Banda and her partner Keona Stopper and finally the 1’s of Katia Dizon with Sarah Weiby. The 3’s were the first to get a win in straight sets, and a short time later it was the 2’s winning in straight sets giving the match to the Rams.

  • The 5’s of Evelyn Clonts and Melissa Zanotto won their match  in straight sets 21-15, 21-12
  • Juice Viray and Flo Tukuaoga came away with a 21-17, 21-17 victory
  • It was the former high school teammates Mikeila Banda and Keona Stopper reunited after two years apart that got the match clinching win by a score of 21-17, 22-20

UP NEXT

The Rams will host a beach double header next Friday. They will take on Delta College starting at 11 am, followed by Sierra College which is scheduled to start at 1 pm. While Gavilan and Delta are playing on Courts 1 and 2, Sierra will be taking on Foothill College at 11 am on courts 3 and 4. Delta will play Foothill on those courts starting at 1 pm.
