Gavilan, CA – In the second half of Friday night’s game against De Anza College, freshman Mireya Hernandez hit 4 3-pointers, while sophomore Jessica Curto score 10 points in the paint to help propel the Rams to a 65-54 win over the Dons.

The Rams got off to a hot start in the first quarter outscoring the Dons 16-6, but the lead would quickly close to 6 at the end of the half with the scoreboard reading 30-24. That was in large part to a 3 point shot hit by Curto to end the 2nd quarter. In the third, the Rams put up 22 points but some turnovers and defensive lapses lead to the Dons putting up 23. However, in the fourth quarter the defense turned up the pressure keeping De Anza from running their offense as they only score 7 points in the quarter. Ultimately for the Rams it was the inside/out game lead by Hernandez and Curto that helped put away the dons ensuring the win.

Both Hernandez and Curto had 18 points to lead the Rams, Hernandez actually posted a double double ash she finished with 10 rebounds, 4 steals, one assists and one steal. Curto finished with 7 rebounds, 5 steals and one block. Berenice Martinez Santoyo had 9 points to go with 12 rebounds which was a team high in that category.

The Rams improve their record to 5-10 overall, but more importantly they are 2-1 in the early stages of Coast Conference play sitting alone in third place. They will be back in action on Wednesday night as they visit Monterey Peninsula College at 5 p.m. Go Rams!
