Gavilan, CA – Behind starting pitcher sophomore Diego Raynoso’s (Pacheco H.S.) 7 strong innings, the Gavilan College Baseball got their first win of the season by a score of 10-3 against the College of the Siskiyous.

Playing in their second game of a two day three game series against the Eagles, the Rams were down early after giving up a run in the top of the first only to score two in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. It was sophomore Christopher Molina (Wilcox H.S.) who hit a double that brought in a pair of Rams. In the 2nd the Eagles once again score a run to tie the score, only to have freshman Benjamin Prentiss (Lodi H.S.) triple in the bottom of the inning driving in a Ram, to put Gavilan back on top. The Eagles scored their last run of the game in the 3rd inning. But once again the Rams answered back with a pair of runs.  With the bases loaded freshman Andrew Mendoza (Live Oak H.S.) made the most of his at bat as he grounded out to third, forcing in a run. Then freshman Jacob Baker (St. Francis Watsonville) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring the second run of the inning. From here the Rams never looked back. They added two runs in the 7th and 3 in the 8th to put away any doubt in the outcome of the game.

Raynoso pitched 7 innings giving up only 3 runs with 3 strike outs and 3 walks. Curtis Aichele a sophomore from Live Oak high school gave up one hit in two innings of relief. Mendoza had 3 RBI’s to lead the Rams with freshman Jose Rodriguez (San Benito H.S.) and Molina finishing with a pair of RBIs themselves.  Prentiss went 3 for 5, while sophomore BT Ellis (Christopher H.S.) went 2 for 3, with 2 runs scored, an RBI and a walk.

The Rams were unable to complete the double header sweep as they lost the final game of the series to the Eagles 6-2, ultimately losing the series 2-1. However, the Rams will be back in action on Tuesday as the will host Merced College at 2 pm, and then again on Saturday as they host City College of San Francisco with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. Go Rams!
