Gavilan, CA – It wasn't until the night before the game, that the Gavilan Volleyball team knew who they were going to play in the 1st round of the CCCAA NorCal Regional Playoffs. As one of the top three seeds, the Rams would get the winner of a play in game that due to the air quality got moved to Monday, giving the two teams less than 24 hours to prepare. Fortunately for Gavilan as it turns out they knew their opponent in fact they played them twice in conference, Ohlone College. Coaches usually don't like to play a team three times in one season, especially since history has shown third times a charm except last night. The Rams took care of business defeating the Renegades in straight sets by a score of 25-9, 25-22 and 25-11.

The two team traded points early on in the first set, with the scoreboard reading 4-4. Then the Rams shook off any nerves they might have had and went on a 10-0 run to take control of the set. They second set was much like the beginning moments of the first as both team went point for point with no team getting out to more than a 3 point lead. Than with the score in the Rams favor at 19-16, Ohlone went on a run of their own to take a 22-19 lead. After a quick time out by Coach Kevin Kramer, Gavilan would earn the next six points to take the set. The third set was never in doubt,  as the Rams came out the gates with an 11-1 run highlighted by Evelyn Clonts’ kill off an over pass from the Renegades.

It was Charlotte Cannizzaro who led the team with 9 kills, followed by Teresa Ochoa with 8 and both middles Clonts and Camille Finley had 5 apiece. Kieley Hoskins had 15 assists with Greysen Gilroy not far behind with 11 of her own. Finley had 3 blocks while Clonts had 2 and libero Mikeila Banda controlled the back end of the defense with 16 digs.

The Rams will now host the #10 seeded Feather River College on Saturday night. The Golden Eagles defeated the #7 seeded Folsom Lake Falcons earlier in the day in four sets. This will be the first meeting of the season between Feather River and Gavilan.  First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Go Rams!
