Red Hot Start

Gavilan College – The freshly crowned Coast Conference South Division Champion Gavilan College Volleyball team go off to a red-hot start against Ohlone College last night as they started the match on a 16-1 run and never looked back. Led by freshman Teresa Ochoa who had a match high 13 kills, the team would hit .524 in the first set on their way to a 25-5, 25-15, 25-16 victory.

Ochoa was followed by Camille Finley who was set 6 times and every one of those sets ended up a kill, she hit a perfect 1.000 while Flo Tukuaoga had 5 kills on 12 swings. Kieley Hoskins had 15 assists, Sarah Weiby had 9 assists to go with her 3 kills 5 digs and Greysen Gilroy had 6 assists. Evelyn Clonts continues to pile up the blocks during her record-breaking year at the net with 5 more blocks to give her 95 blocks on the year. She currently is 5th in the state in blocks and 2nd in the state with an average of 1.25 blocks per set. Mikeila Banda had 13 digs and was followed by Gilroy who had 7.  As a team, the Rams hit .441 in the match and held Ohlone College to a team percentage of .000.

With the win the Rams improve their record to 26-1 and 11-0 in conference play. The will play their final game of the season on Friday night as they take on Las Positas College at 6:30 pm. Before the match is played their will be a quick ceremony to honor the team’s nine sophomores who will be playing in their last regular season match of their career. The sophomore Mikeila Banda, Lex Chavarria, Evelyn Clonts, Katia Dizon, Camille Finley, Greysen Gilroy, Adrianne Orahood, Juice Viray and Sarah Weiby. Go Rams!
