4 Rams Receive Honors

Gavilan, CA – The Gavilan Soccer team had its most successful season since in the tenure of Head Coach Ricardo Espinosa as they finished the season with 7 wins, finishing in fifth place in the Coast Conference South Division. To add to that, the lineup he wrote in were all freshmen securing a bright future for the Rams. The coaches of the Coast Conference also took note of the improved program, has they rewarded four of those freshmen with all-conference honors at the end of the year coaches meeting. Two were named to the 1st team all-conference, while the other two were named 2nd team all-conference.

Team captain and midfielder, Rodolfo Rivera was the first to be named to the 1st team. Rivera led the Rams in scoring with 9 goals, 8 assists which was good for 26 points. Down the stretch he scored a goal or recorded an assist in six of the last eight matches. Joining Rivera is forward Anthony Ceja. Ceja scored 7 goals while giving out 5 assists for a total of 19 points.

The Rams that made up the 2nd team were Jesus Lopez Flores and Alfonso Lopez. Flores was the team’s keeper who finished with a record of 7-11-1, saved 121 shots, for a save percentage of .661 and had 2 shutouts. Lopez, a midfielder scored 4 goals for the Rams while assisting in 4 goals for 12 points.
