Rams let one slip by

Gilroy, CA – As Gavilan honors their sophomore who are playing in their final home game, sophomores Corey Garcia gets 8 catches for 140 yards with one touchdown, while Jawaun Hardy had 5 catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns in Gavilan’s 34-24 loss to San Jose City College.

The Rams got on the board first when Garcia scored on a 59 yard touchdown pass from Jimmy Brechtel midway into the first quarter. With the score tied at 7 in the second quarter, Cecil Murphy kicked a 22 yard field goal to give the Rams a 10-7 lead, which is where the score would stay for the rest of the half. The Jaguars score 10 straight points to open of the 3rd quarter, the Rams struck back when Hardy brought in a 19 yard pass from John Bell for his first of his two. After another Jaguar score, Hardy caught another touchdown from Bell this time from 32 yards out, the evened the score at 24 with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter. However a late field goal would give San Jose City the lead for good as they would tack on one last score to end the game.

Offensively, Bell finished 8-13 for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Brechtel went 7-15 for 92 yards with 1 touchdown and 26 rushing yards. Kyree Harbin led the Rams with 37 yards on the ground. Richard Justo had 10 tackles to lead the defense, followed by Donny Torres who finished with 6.

Gavilan will finish the season on the road on Saturday as they take on Merced College with kickoff schedule for 1 p.m. Go Rams!
