Cabrillo (14-10, 7-3) 26 41 67

Aptos, Ca – 2005 was the last time a Men’s Basketball team from Gavilan College defeated a team from Cabrillo College. That is 13 years of losing to one team twice a year. 13 years of waiting and wanting that this will be the year things will be different, only to end up on the losing side of the scoreboard once again. Well the time of waiting is over, after the Rams traveled to Cabrillo and came away with a 71-64 victory.

The Rams high scorer for the game was Ibn Zaid who scored 21 points followed by Ja-Mont Wilson who chipped in 17 off the bench. It was Xander Bowers and Brian King Jr. leading the team in the rebounding department with 8 apiece.

The game itself was a close one, with both teams having similar numbers.  While Gavilan shot 42% from the field, Cabrillo shot 41%. Gavilan had 34 rebounds, Cabrillo had 32. In fact both team made 5 3-point shots, Gavilan just took less shots leading to a higher percentage.

With the win, the Rams improved their record to 21-3 and 7-2 in Coast Conference play. They now sit a half game in front of Cabrillo College with four games left on their schedule. The Rams will take on Monterey Peninsula College at home on Friday night.
