Aptos, CA – For the second time in the last three games, the Gavilan College Baseball team came away with a win. This time it was the Seahawks of Cabrillo that fell victims to the Rams by a score of 4-0 in the first game of a three game series.

The game was a pitcher’s duel early, until the bottom of the 5th when Gavilan broke up the scoreless tie. Alex Rose singled with one out in the inning. Rose found himself on third after advancing via a ground out and a passed ball. Then a Josh Hernandez single up the middle brought in Rose. In the 6th, after a single of his own, Nate Alejo would score on a Cory Jacob double.  An inning later, the Rams were able to bring in Justin Nelson after a walk with solid execution at the plate. A sacrifice bunt by Hernandez moved the runner over to second base. This then allowed Dillon McFarland to drive in the third run of the game with a base hit. The fourth and final run for the Rams was manufactured by a Dallas Wilson walk and steal of second base. A ground out by Cory Jacob advanced the runner to third. Then up stepped Rose who delivered a line drive single, scoring Wilson.

The story of the game for Gavilan was starting pitcher Cameron Gilroy. Gilroy threw a complete game shutout, his second complete game of the season. He recorded two strikeouts with only one walk. All though Gilroy gave up twelve hits, he never gave up more than two hits in any one inning,

The Rams will look to build on their recent success as they finish their series with Cabrillo with game two taking place on Thursday and the finale on Saturday. All games will take place in Aptos.
