Gilroy, CA- If it seems like it has been over a year since the Gavilan College Volleyball team has played in a home match, you’d be wrong, but not by much. It has been 335 days since the Rams have played in a home game.  The team more than ready to play their first match in the gym the have had only one practice in this year, came out swinging as they defeated San Jose City College in three sets 25-14, 25-11, 25-5.

Led offensively by Haley Leifheit and Katia Dizon, the Rams seemed like they could do no wrong against an under sized San Jose squad. Gavilan got off to quick starts in each set, with a 5-1 run in the first, 7-2 in the second and 10-3 in the third. In fact, the Rams had only 3 hitting errors all night, a season low. All three errors occurred in the first set as Gavilan got familiar with hitting in the brand-new gym. Leifheit had a team high 10 kills with Dizon (8 kills) and Evelyn Clonts (5 kills) giving her a helping hand. Greysen Gilroy had 17 assists with Christa Arroyo having 14 assists of her own. From the serving line it was Lex Chavarria who had a career high 5 aces all in the 3rd set and Mikeila Banda not far behind with 4 aces.

With the win the Rams improve their record to 15-6 and 5-1 in Coast Conference South play. Gavilan still sits atop of the standing with a one game lead. They will take on Ohlone College on Wednesday Night at Gavilan College. First serve as always is at 6:30 p.m.
