Fremont, CA- There is one road gym within the Coast Conference that history has shown us, that no matter the records of the two teams that the odds of Gavilan being on the wrong side of an upset are above average is the gym that belongs to Ohlone College. With this is mind the Rams went into last night’s match determined not to let it happen this year. It didn’t as Gavilan won in three sets 25-16, 25-15, 25-23.

The first set was back in forth early on when a kill by Haley Leifheit gave the Rams a 6-5 lead that they would not surrender. As the set continued it was Camille Finley’s kill with the score 14-11 that would ignite an 11-5 run to finish the set. It was a crisp and clean played set that had every Ram hitter that was on the floor recording a kill.

The second set was a mirror of the previous set. Back and forth early before a 12-5 run by Gavilan that really put the set and the match away. As before every Ram recorded a kill led by Evelyn Clonts’ 4 kills.

All though the score might indicate a closer match in the third, the momentum was always on the side of the Rams, holding a 2-point lead through out. This set belong the Clonts sisters. While Evelyn was protecting the net with 4 blocks, Jenna had 4 of her team high 7 kills to put away the match.

Other offensive leaders were Leifheit and Finley who both finished with 6 kills. Christa Arroyo had 16 assists and 11 digs with Greysen Gilroy not far behind with 14 assists to go along with her team high 3 service aces.  Defensively, the Rams were led by libero Mikeila Banda who finish the night with 16 digs on the back end of the court while Evelyn Clonts finished with 7 block and Jenna Clonts with 4 of her own.

The Rams are now 12-3 and 2-0 sitting at the top of the Coast Conference South division along with De Anza College. Next week, Gavilan will travel to Aptos for a rare Monday Night Volleyball match with Cabrillo College followed by a conference showdown with the fore mentioned Dons of De Anza College.
