Los Altos Hills, CA- Going into their match against Foothill College, the Rams knew despite what the record of the two teams may show, that they were going to have a fight on their hands. It turns out that was exactly what happened as Gavilan dropped their first match in conference play, losing in three sets 28-30, 18-25, 24-26.

The story of the match can be looked at two different ways depending on your point of view. From the Rams point of view, they were unable to put the ball away at key moments to win sets 1 or 3. However, from Foothills point of view it was their defensive effort with timely blocking and big digs off huge swings from the Rams which propelled helped them pull of the “upset”. In reality it probably was a little of both. The Foothill defense helped force the Rams into 22 hitting errors with only 36 kills. The real story was that Gavilan had 65 swings that were not able to find the floor. More than once Foothill was able to control a hard-hit ball by throwing out an arm and getting a one-handed dig to prevent a kill.

Jenna Clonts, Haley Leifheit and Katelyn Viray each had 7 kills with Evelyn Clonts right behind them with 6. Christa Arroyo and Greysen Gilroy both finished the night with 17 assists. Katia Dizon led the team defensively with 14 digs, with Mikeila Banda being the only other Ram in double digit digs with 11.

The Rams’ record is now 14-5 and 4-1 in conference play. They will now play their final six matches of the regular season at home. Their first match however has been changed from their original schedule. Due to the gym remodel, Monday nights home opener has been moved to Wednesday night. With first serve schedule for 6:30 p.m.
