There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the Gavilan College Men's basketball team, who are led by first year head coach Dallas Jensen. As it turns out the buzz might be right. The Rams kicked of the 2017-2018 season by winning the San Jose City College Tip-Off Classic, going a perfect 3-0.

On Thursday night, the team took on and defeated Lassen College by a score of 67-55. The Rams were led by Ja-Mont Wilson's double double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.  There were two others who scored in double digits, Ibn Zaid with 13 points and with Brian King Jr's 11 points.

Friday night found the Rams taking on host San Jose City College. Gavilan found themselves trailing by two at halftime. However, the Rams would outscore the Jaguars 47-29 on their way to a 82-66 victory. This time it was King leading the way with 22 points followed by Zaid 18 points and Xander Bowers with 14 points.

In the Championship match, it was Foothill College standing between Gavilan and a tournament championship. The Rams came out on top by a score of 73-55. Bowers was named tournament MVP. There will be more coverage of the championship game in the days to come. For now, its three matches and three wins and a new item for the Rams trophy case.
