When it Rains..

Roseville, Calif.- There was howling winds, pouring rain and two beach volleyball teams wondering where exactly was the sun, as Sierra College and Gavilan College met for the second time this season.  With full squads, it was the Wolverines that came away with the victory 3 matches to 2.

In the first round of matches which saw the 4’s and 5’s taking the court. However, it was two straight set losses for the Rams. The 5’s team of Tazi Apple and Karishima Brooks fell to a score of 10-21, 3-21. In the match up of 4’s, Christa Arroyo and Jenna Clonts were defeated 11-21, 14-21.

The second round of matches involved the 1’s, 2’s and 3’s. In the 1’s match, Madison Hartman and Valerie Rodgers avenged their three set loss earlier in the year by quicklyRodgers goes up to swing dispatching the pair from Sierra 21-6, 21-15. Finishing their match in just a short time later was Erica Chapa and Haley Leifheit with a score of 21-10, 21-12. It all came down to the 3’s match to decide the match.   After going down in the first set 17-21, the duo of Courtney Borja and Claire Gerard force a decided third set by a score of 21-12. The third set was played in the harshest conditions of the day. Buckets of rain came pouring down on the four players who were soaked head to toe. Back and forth the set went, but unfortunately the Rams would ultimately fall short 12-15, giving Sierra the dual win. 

Gavilan was also scheduled to play College of the Redwoods, but for some unforeseen reason they forfeited the match.Gavilan will next take on Foothill College and Cabrillo College next Wednesday at the Main Beach Volleyball Courts in Santa Cruz.
