Nominations open for Gavilan College Community Spirit Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the Gavilan College 2004 Community Spirit Awards. Created in 1999 by the Gavilan College Board of Trustees, the awards recognize contributions to the communities that form the Gavilan Joint Community College District. Each year, three sets of awards are presented, for the communities of Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and San Benito County. This year, for the first time, nominations are being solicited from the community at large.

Any individual, organization, or business in the Gavilan College District (exclusive of Gavilan College employees) may be nominated: from the people who devote countless hours to volunteering, to the organizations that are there to meet special needs, to the businesses that contribute to schools and charitable projects. A selection panel at Gavilan College will review the nominations, and present the awards at community events in Morgan Hill, Gilroy, and Hollister. Anyone who lives or works in the district may submit a nomination.

The first set of awards for 2004 will be presented for the community of Morgan Hill at the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Breakfast on September 2. Nomination forms with selection criteria are available online. Completed nominations for the Morgan Hill award should be returned by June 11, 2004.(deadlines for the Gilroy and Hollister awards will be announced at a later date.)
