Gavilan Rams Women's Softball team to withdraw from final games

Gavilan College Athletic Director Ron Hannon announced today that, due to the busy schedules of many student-athletes in the softball program, the Gavilan College Women's Softball team would not complete the remainder of the 2004 season and would withdraw from the remaining four games on the schedule.

"Out of consideration to the opposing teams and the rest of the Coast Conference, we are withdrawing from the remaining games this season," said Hannon. "Some of the women are juggling jobs and family responsibilities as well as their classes. I appreciate the fact that our students, with so many responsibilities were willing to take on another commitment, but in the end it's not fair to the other teams and to the overall direction of the Gavilan College softball program."

College President Steve Kinsella added that, "while it is a disappointment that the team will not be able to finish the season, it is the right thing to do."

While many players have been present at all the games, several games have had to be cancelled because not enough players were available to participate, and it was uncertain whether enough players would be available to play remaining games. All of the players have been notified of the decision.

The decision will affect the remaining games this season, but not the program as a whole. "We remain committed to a successful Women's Softball program," says Hannon. "It's not about winning or losing, but about being committed and consistent in what we do."
