Student email, in the works for a long time, is finally here! All current Gavilan College students now have Gavilan College emailaccounts. Students do not have to sign up -- the accounts were automatically assigned, and went live on April 1, 2014. In the future, email addresses will be assigned at the time a student is admitted to the college.
Student email addresses are hosted through Google's Gmail, and use the format FIRSTNAME.LASTNAMEemail@example.com. To access their email accounts, and find out their email addresses, students should login to the MyGav portal, where they will see their new email and calendar "portlets" displayed.
The student email addresses will ensure that every student has an email address for communication with the college, its departments, and instructors. The email accounts, ending in ".edu" may also make students eligible for discounts on software, technology, and books at some retailers.
